Last October, Ian and his friend Rick sailed to from Fiji to New Zealand–I tapped out and headed to Canada for work.
But for the return to the warmth of the South Pacific, it was Ian and I doing the 10 day sail from NZ-Fiji. The first day or two out of New Zealand was a wild sail, reminding us that we hate sailing. I barfed a lot and we were both tired. As the weather cleared, we aimed for Minerva Reef but when more bad weather showed up, we pivoted and headed for Fiji, arriving safely in Suva.
Minerva Reef is a sunken atoll in the Pacific, underwater at high tide. Check out this amazing story about some tough-as-nails Cook Islanders shipwrecked on Minerva in 60s (story and film coming to a film festival near you).

Rick and Ian sailed down to NZ last October, the first 2 days were rough but then they had 7 days of calm, as evidenced by the roasted lamb dinner.
